Contract for Trees Scheme – what are we doing?
For every contract Gemini signs with a client, we will plant a tree in the client’s name – both as a gift to them (and the planet) and to raise awareness of the great tree-planting work that eForests is doing across the United Kingdom. We are dedicated to our customers, and we believe they will feel just as passionately as us about making a difference – which is why we decided to include them in our collaboration with eForests.
Reasons why this is important
Every day, each of us contributes to climate change through our day-to-day activities. This includes: burning fuel on our commute to work and holiday flights, using energy in our homes and even the distance travelled by the food we eat. Almost every action we take in the modern world can create carbon emissions (C02) which damage the ozone layer, causing climate change and endangering our future lives. Increasing our awareness of our impact on the world’s resources helps us to find ways to reduce this danger.
The positive news is that solutions to this problem are becoming far more accessible with the advancement of electric cars, more energy-efficient homes and access to initiatives such as EFORESTS or One Tree Planted.
Being able to log in online and instantly donate to programmes such as One Tree Planted all over the world gives us direct power to change our environment for the better. Globally, there are numerous charities focused on combating the growing issue of environmental damage, climate change and our carbon footprint.
What if every company in the UK donated just 1 tree?
1 million employers listed in the UK = 10 Million trees
Last year, according to the latest statistics from the House of Commons Business Statistics, there were just under 1 million employers listed in the UK and a total of 2 million limited companies. Imagine the potential of companies adopting environmental-friendly initiatives: if every employer in the UK planted just 1 tree per year, more than 10 million trees would be planted, through this initiative alone. One small step by an organisation can have a massive impact, achieving a more carbon-neutral corporate landscape.
According to Damian Carrington, The Guardian’s Environmental Editor, “planting billions of trees across the world is one of the biggest and cheapest ways of taking C02 out of the atmosphere.” There is great potential for reforestation in our environment. New research revealed that a worldwide planting programme could remove more than 60% of all emissions from human activities – a truly powerful figure.
“This new quantitative evaluation shows [forest] restoration isn’t just one of our climate solutions, it is overwhelmingly the top one” said Professor Tom Crowther from the ETH University in Switzerland. The surprising revelation in their scientific study is that the UK and Ireland are the countries with the highest potential in Europe for such reforestation efforts.
How you can get involved
There are many ways in which you can become part of the positive action to help reduce our carbon footprint.

- Work on gaining new clients and new contracts – we plant a tree for every new contract
- Buy local – to keep food miles down
- Avoid burning fossil fuels and wood, and reduce the use of coal, petrol, oil
- Walk or cycle where you can. Use public transport wherever you can’t
